BREAKING DOWN THE 6 PUNCHES

A LITTLE ABOUT US:

Every group class, ringside, and private training session you take at BOXHAUS will consist of mastering the 6 basic punches. The breakdowns of these 6 punches will help you expand your workouts here in the studio and will allow you to build upon your combinations and skills.

Lead Jab

  • The JAB is a punch thrown with the LEAD hand down the middle of the bag, fully extending the arm and turning over fist at extension (45-degree downward angle)
  • Bring hand straight back to face
  • Opposite hand remains high, with elbow tight, protecting boxer’s face

BACK CROSS

  • The CROSS is thrown with the BACK dominant hand, the hand furthest from the bag
    Cross comes straight down the middle of the bag as boxer simultaneously pivots their back foot
  • Fully extend punch, turning over fist at extension (45-degree downward angle)
  • Bring hand straight back to face
    Opposite hand remains high with elbow tight, protecting boxer’s face

LEAD HOOK

  • Pivot lead foot as you throw lead hook horizontally across eye line, bring hip with you

  • Arm at 90-degree angle with fist behind elbow, punch lands on the side of the bag as thrown, elbow comes up and around

  • Throw one at a time, keeping the opposite hand high and elbow tight for protection.

BACK HOOK

  • Pivot back foot as you throw back hook horizontally across eye line, bring hip with you

  • Arm at 90-degree angle with fist behind elbow, punch lands on the side of the bag, elbow comes up and around

  • Throw one at a time, keeping the opposite hand high and elbow tight for protection

LEAD UPPERCUT

  • Punch is thrown with lead hand in an upward motion to the center of the bag

  • 90-degree angle in arm

  • Bend in the knees

  • Opposite hand stays high

  • Elbows tight

BACK UPPERCUT

  • Punch is thrown with back hand in an upward motion to the center of the bag

  • 90-degree angle in arm

  • Bend in knees

  • Opposite hand stays high

  • Elbows tight

After this break-down, you are officially a pro at the 6 – basic punches!! It’s now your turn to come try these out in either our Newport or Long Beach Studio! We will see you punching and crunching in there!

Happy Birthday and 2nd Anniversary BOXHAUS!  As we are Jab. Cross. And Hooking into year 2 of BOXHAUS we wanted to welcome everyone to our official BOXHAUS Blog!

A LITTLE ABOUT US:

BOXHAUS opened its doors February 2018 to an Orange Country community who was itching for a boutique boxing experience. We strived to create an environment that was not intimidating for the everyday women or men. We wanted to create an environment where you could have never worked out a day in your life or have boxed over 100 times and BOXHAUS was still the place where you could leave your workout feeling empowered, strong and itching to come back to us.

 

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A BOXHAUS WORKOUT?

Our standard 45-minute BOXHAUS class is a one of a kind boxing experience curated for beginners and the experts.  We specialize in group boxing classes that highlight not only teaching you the boxing basics, but keeps your heart rate up for an exhilarating cardio fitness class. Our trainers start each class by breaking down the six basic punches, followed by a 5 minutes warm-up. From there it is full speed ahead into 7- rounds of boxing filled with colorful lights and your favorite music ranging from Drake to the Paramore. Along with our 45-minutes standard BH workout, we also offer Private Training and RingSide Classes. Both of these are great ways to learn boxing fundamentals on a more personal level with any of our six amazing trainers. During these 1- hour private sessions our trainers will have you throwing the perfect jab and left hook in no time.

 

 WHATS NEXT:

As we are approaching the Spring, we are so excited to announce we are opening our newest BOXHAUS location in Long Beach at the 2nd and PCH Shopping Center! We will be located on the second floor directly above Lululemon. Our doors will be open to the public on Monday, March 2nd so stop by, grab your gloves, and come take a class!
